Michelle Tucker Chubenko, AG®, AGL™ is accredited in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States through the International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists (ICAPGen) and specializes in the Mid-Atlantic region and Eastern European research. In June 2024, she earned the Accredited Genealogist Lecturer credential.
Her educational journey has not been a straight line. She attended her first national conference in 1999 and has enjoyed many events across the county since then. In 2012, she was introduced to genealogical institutes and attended Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP). In subsequent years, she completed the ProGen Study Group (ProGen17) in 2014 and have taken courses at GRIP, the Institute of Genealogy & Historical Research (IGHR), and the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG).
In 2023, she was the course coordinator for "Researching Your Ancestry in the Austrian Crownland of Galicia" at GRIP and in 2024, a course instructor for SLIG's course "Slava Ukraini! Genealogical Research in Ukraine".
For the past 35 years, Michelle has researched families in the Mid-Atlantic (Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania) and broadened her geographic skill set to deep dive into her immigrant roots in Eastern Europe in the former territory of Galicia (Austria-Hungary) and other European countries including Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Croatia, Austria and Germany.
Michelle is a founding member with the “Nashi Predky/Our Ancestors” Family History Group at the Ukrainian History and Education Center (Somerset, New Jersey) and in 2023, coordinated the institute course Researching Your Ancestry in the Crownland of Galicia, Austria-Hungary. Since 2021, she has hosted a monthly Q&A Zoom session Have Questions? Get Answers for Research in Galicia.
As a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), she serves as the Chapter Representative for the New Jersey Chapter of APG and maintains memberships in local and ethnic genealogical societies. In 2025, she was appointed to the Board of Foundation for East European Family History Studies (FEEFHS).
