Several years ago, I took Mom to one of her class reunions in her hometown. During our visit, she planned several stops at the courthouse, the library, the cemetery, etc. in order to obtain information about family members that she was interested in. She was compiling our family's genealogical records and then entering them into a program that predated ancestry.com.
While I was not interested in any aspect of genealogy at the time, leafing through the census records from decades prior ignited a spark in my mind. Seeing Dad and Mom's names (along with their parents and siblings) and being able to touch those census pages forged a connection with the past that was unexpected on my part.
Needless to say, I became an almost immediate convert and started doing my own genealogical research. I've done extensive research on my own family of origin and have answered specific research questions for friends and family.
I continue to conduct genealogical research on a weekly basis and hope to assist more individuals outside of my immediate family with research questions of their own.
