Nathan Shepherd

ProGen Member Overview

Nathan has been active in genealogy for over a decade. His interest stems from a long-term love of local history, which was fueled by field trips to amazing sites near Chicago while a student there. Genealogy made local history even more personal, and he was soon hooked.

Now, by day, he is a data scientist and management consultant in the National Capital Area, and by night – sometimes very late into the night – he explores virtual archives trying to substantiate or refute claims of connection and add detail and color to family stories.

His research focuses on the US Mountain West, Mid-Atlantic, New England, and Upper South, and his particular interests are 'backyard' ancestors (or those who lived and died nearby), how locality and contemporary events impact ancestors, and DNA research.
