ProGen Member Overview

I have a passion for history, and especially family history. As a genealogist, my desire is to bring an appreciation for history to my clients and students. Genealogy is not just finding out who your ancestors were, but why they were, where they came from and what they contributed to you as an individual. Although you may not have anyone famous in your family tree, your ancestors were immensely important and hold a treasure trove of information that can illuminate the people and events of the past and provide an appreciation for where we have been, and a new understanding of what is happening now.

Experience

I have been researching genealogy since 1993. I have spent time in California, Connecticut, Ohio, Illinois, and Massachusetts, and use online resources frequently for locations across the USA, Canada and other countries. I am skilled at finding and interpreting census records, probate, estate, and court records, land records, birth marriage and death records, cemetery records, naturalization records, ships passenger lists, slave schedules, historical maps, and military records. I have worked with records in French, Italian, German, and Spanish and have researched interests in Italy, Canada, Ireland, Isle of man, Scotland, Wales, France, Germany, Mexico, India, Hungary and the Netherlands. I am familiar with DNA and genetic genealogy and have worked with a few adoptees to successfully locate birth families. I am a volunteer indexer for Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org. I work with investigators for the California State Controller's Office to locate living heirs entitled to unclaimed property. I work as a genealogist with Trace.com and participated as a coach in their Coaches Corner at RootsTech 2020.

I am currently available for research. I will also do record retrievals and cemetery photos in the Southern California area.
